Inspiring Walker award winner!
Mike has been a voluntary walk leader for an incredible ten years. During this time he has helped hundreds of people to enjoy a more active life, through leading walks and training other volunteers.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer around eight years ago, Mike soon returned to Walking for Health and is able to share his experience to help and inspire others. Mike made a moving speech as he received the award, which many said was one of the highlights of the day.
His friend and colleague Don Burluraux nominated him for the award, saying:
"Having suffered prostate cancer, Mike is always willing to share his experience with other walkers and trainee walk leaders and continues to encourage them to stay physically active and live a healthy lifestyle. I think Mike deserves some special recognition for his enthusiasm for his own life as well as others. He is a great example to all who meet him and listen to his encouraging words that cancer can be successfully fought and overcome! Mike is 74 years young and is a fantastic example to everyone who is lucky enough to meet him."
Mike is truly an inspiring volunteer - one of many who helps change the lives of people in their local community for the better, by supporting and leading local health walks.
