Trafford - Walk for Health had an amazing turn-out on their Urmston Meadows walk this month, when 100 walkers took part. And this is not unusual. "We have had up to 111", says Craig Shaw, the walk leader.
Paul Wooley from the team joined the walk and was delighted to see so many walkers out, despite a doubtful weather forecast, everyone arrived and enjoyed a selection of three walks before the rain arrived. We see walks of every size but this is the biggest we’ve seen so far.
Craig says their success isn’t due to any one thing. They have attractive walks, plenty of interested people and a good team of committed walk leaders who are cheered on enthusiastically by the scheme coordinator, Dave Walmsley. They also promote the walks widely, including using Facebook, but recognise 'word of mouth' is most likely their greatest promotional asset.
Dave Walmsley and Dr Yvonne Burke of the Boundary House Practice, who launched the scheme, appreciate the support The Ramblers, Sale Sports Club and Trafford Public Health give to making Walking for Health in Trafford possible.
